A PNG has no layers inside it. That is not a flaw in your file, it is simply what a PNG is. So when you right click expecting to ungroup and pull the pieces apart, there is genuinely nothing there to separate. An SVG arrives already split into pieces you can work with, but you will not always have one, and plenty of designs are sold as PNGs only.
The way through is tracing, and xTool Studio has a solid trace tool built in. But there is a checkbox in that trace window that most people never touch, and it completely changes what you end up with. Melissa shows which one it is and why it matters, what to do with your original image once the trace is finished, since there is a specific reason it stops being useful to you, and the tool that gets you access to an outer edge when ungrouping refuses to give it up.
From there she walks through two different ways to finish the piece, including how to build your own offset when your design elements are not connected to each other. There is also a shortcut worth knowing for the times you do have an SVG instead.

Once the design is traced and separated, you can assign a different operation to every piece of it and run the whole thing as one job.
