What the Silhouette cloud actually is
When you're signed into your Silhouette America account inside Silhouette Studio, you have access to the cloud library. This is online storage tied to your account — meaning any files you save there are accessible from any computer as long as you're signed in. That's the key benefit: you can work on one computer, save to the cloud, and pick up where you left off on a different machine.
The cloud is separate from your local storage, which is files saved directly to your computer's hard drive. Local files are only accessible on that specific computer unless you manually export and re-import them elsewhere.
Why you need to be signed in
Here's something a lot of people don't realize: if you purchase designs from the Silhouette Design Store, those purchases will only sync to your library if you're signed into your Silhouette America account in Studio. If you're not signed in and you're wondering why your purchases aren't showing up — that's almost always the reason.
The same applies to accessing your cloud files. No sign-in, no cloud access. It sounds obvious but it's the source of a lot of confusion, especially for people who set up Studio on a new computer and can't find their designs.
The storage limit
Cloud storage isn't unlimited. Silhouette gives you a set amount of cloud space, and if you're saving everything there — especially large files — you'll eventually hit the limit. When that happens, new saves will fail or prompt you to free up space. There's a video in the Silhouette U library specifically on how to free up cloud space when you hit this.
