How to Save, Export, and Share Your Silhouette Studio Files the Right Way

Silhouette Studio can export your designs as an SVG, PNG, or JPEG — but there are a few things you need to know.

Before You Save Your Files as SVG, PNG, JPEG or PDF

Exporting from Silhouette Studio sounds simple — go to File, pick a format, save. But there's more to it than that. There's a specific requirement you need to meet before any of these export options are even available, a limitation on which designs you can export, and a key difference between two very similar menu options that changes what actually gets saved. This month's free video covers all of it.

Most people don't realize there are actually two different ways to save from Silhouette Studio — and they do very different things. One saves everything in your work area. The other saves only what you have selected. Choosing the wrong one means you either get too much or have to go back and start over.

There's also a right and wrong way to export as PNG specifically — there's an extra option in the pop-up box that most people miss, and skipping it means your file won't have a transparent background even though you expected it to.

In this month's free Silhouette U video, Melissa walks through exporting as SVG, JPEG, and PNG — including the DPI setting you should always aim for on JPEGs, the PNG transparent background option, and the requirement that has to be in place before any of these export formats are available to you at all.

Watch the free video below — it's short, it's specific, and it'll save you a lot of frustration.
